Does the Charging Module draw power when no smartphone is mounted?Updated 4 days ago

Yes, to a small extent. If you connect the SP-Connect Charging Module directly to your motorcycle battery using the Cable 12V DC, a small standby current may continue to flow even after the smartphone has been removed.

This is normal, as the Charging Module does not feature a separate on/off switch and remains permanently ready for operation.

What does this mean for my motorcycle battery?

Power consumption while parked is very low. However, over extended periods of inactivity, this continuous standby current may place some load on the battery, particularly if the battery is older or already weakened.

For motorcycle applications, we recommend connecting the Cable 12V DC to an ignition-switched power source.

  • Power is automatically disconnected when the ignition is switched off.
  • No standby current is drawn while the motorcycle is parked.
  • The battery is protected from unnecessary discharge.
  • The Charging Module is automatically ready for use when the ignition is switched on.

Alternative when connected directly to the battery

If connecting via an ignition-switched power source is not possible and the Charging Module is connected directly to the battery, we recommend disconnecting the power supply during extended periods of storage or using a suitable switching system.

Summary

The Charging Module may continue to draw a small standby current from the motorcycle battery after the smartphone has been removed. For the best solution, we recommend connecting the Cable 12V DC to an ignition-switched power source so that power is automatically disconnected when the ignition is turned off.
