Why is my smartphone mounted horizontally on the mount when using the Universal Phone Holder?Updated 21 days ago

The SP-Connect Universal Phone Holder differs in its design from all other SP Connect smartphone solutions. The integrated Twist-to-Lock mechanism is engineered so that your smartphone is horizontally aligned once it is attached to an SP Connect mount.

Why is the Universal Phone Holder designed for horizontal alignment?

The Universal Phone Holder features a spring-loaded clamping mechanism that automatically secures your smartphone between the two holding arms. This means there is no need to manually tighten a screw.

In combination with this clamping mechanism, the horizontal position provides the most secure orientation for your smartphone and is therefore our primary recommendation. The Twist-to-Lock mechanism is designed accordingly for this positioning of the Universal Phone Holder.

Depending on the mount and your preferred setup, the Universal Phone Holder can also be used in other orientations. However, for the best possible and most secure hold, we recommend using it in the horizontal position.

Can I still use my smartphone in a vertical position?

Yes. On most SP Connect mounts, the mount head can be rotated 360° and locked into different positions. This allows your smartphone to also be used in a vertical orientation.

You can find more information here:

The Universal Phone Holder was extensively tested prior to its release. Safe use in a vertical orientation was also confirmed during these tests.

Summary

The Twist-to-Lock mechanism of the SP Connect Universal Phone Holder is designed for horizontal smartphone alignment due to its construction. This is because the integrated spring-loaded clamping mechanism provides optimal force distribution in this position. However, vertical use is still possible on most SP Connect mounts and has been thoroughly tested.
