The mechanism of my Universal Phone Clamp Max will not lock. What can I do?Updated 11 days ago
A certain amount of resistance when locking the SP Connect mechanism is normal due to its design. With the Universal Phone Clamp Max, this resistance may feel more pronounced if you test the mechanism “in isolation” (without a mounted SP Connect holder).
To check whether the mechanism of your Universal Phone Clamp Max is defective, please follow these steps:
1. Mount the holder correctly
Securely attach your SP Connect holder to the intended vehicle (e.g. bicycle, motorcycle, or car). Proper and stable installation is essential for a reliable function test.
2. Prepare the Universal Phone Clamp Max
Pull out the crown to release the clamping mechanism.
3. Insert and secure your smartphone
Place your smartphone centrally into the Universal Phone Clamp Max and tighten the adjustment screw until the device is held firmly and securely in place.
4. Lock the adjustment
Push the crown back in to lock the setting and ensure the smartphone remains securely fixed.
5. Attach and lock the mechanism
Place the Universal Phone Clamp Max with the smartphone inserted flat and fully onto the mounted holder.
Then rotate the clamp by 90° until it reaches the locked position.
Note:
For a meaningful test, we strongly recommend checking the mechanism with the smartphone inserted and the holder mounted. The additional weight and pressure better simulate real-life conditions and allow for a more accurate assessment of the mechanism’s functionality.

Only under these conditions are the necessary pressure and leverage ratios created to reliably determine whether a technical defect is present.
If the Universal Phone Clamp Max still does not lock
If the Universal Phone Clamp Max cannot be locked despite correct application, there may be a rare defect in the mechanism.
