My Universal Charging Phone Clamp charges too slowly. What can I do?Updated a month ago
The SP Connect Universal Charging Phone Clamp supports wireless charging with up to 15 W. However, the actual charging performance may vary depending on the smartphone, power source and conditions of use. This is normal with wireless charging and does not automatically indicate a defect.
Why charging speed may vary
- Smartphone compatibility and charging protocol: Not every smartphone supports the same wireless charging profiles. Some devices generally charge more slowly wirelessly or reduce the charging power sooner.
- Phone case used: An additional phone case increases the distance between the smartphone and the charging coil and may therefore reduce charging performance.
- Temperature management: When temperatures rise, for example due to direct sunlight, navigation or running apps, many smartphones automatically reduce charging power to prevent overheating.
- Power supply: If the power source does not provide sufficient power, less energy is available to the Universal Charging Phone Clamp.
- Simultaneous power consumption: Navigation, high display brightness, mobile data or music can consume enough power that the battery only charges slowly.
- Battery level and battery protection features: Many smartphones charge faster at a low battery level and automatically reduce charging power at higher battery levels, particularly from around 80%.
Tips for better charging performance
1. Use a suitable power source
- Use a power source with Power Delivery (PD) or Quick Charge (QC 2.0 / 3.0 / 4.0) and sufficient power output.
- A power source with insufficient output can significantly limit charging performance.
2. Position the smartphone correctly
- Place your smartphone centrally and flat in the Universal Charging Phone Clamp.
- Make sure that the smartphone's wireless charging coil is positioned as closely as possible over the charging coil of the Universal Charging Phone Clamp.
- Correct alignment allows the charging coils to work together as efficiently as possible.
3. If possible, use the smartphone without an additional phone case
- For the best possible wireless charging performance, we recommend using the smartphone in the Universal Charging Phone Clamp without an additional phone case.
- A phone case can increase the distance from the charging coil and therefore reduce charging performance or interfere with the charging process.
4. Reduce heat
- Protect the smartphone and Universal Charging Phone Clamp from direct sunlight whenever possible.
- If possible, charge your smartphone in a cooler environment. Around 20 °C is ideal.
- If the smartphone becomes very warm, allow it to cool down briefly. Charging performance will often increase again afterwards.
5. Reduce power consumption while charging
- Enable adaptive brightness or reduce the display brightness.
- Close unnecessary apps running in the background.
- Use offline maps for navigation where possible.
- Disable wireless connections that are not required during your ride.
6. Check charging performance at a low battery level
- Evaluate the charging performance at a lower battery level whenever possible, for example below 30%.
- Many smartphones automatically reduce charging speed once the battery reaches a higher state of charge.
- At a battery level of around 80% or higher, charging may be significantly slower.
7. Check battery protection features
- Many smartphones include features such as optimized charging, adaptive charging or battery protection.
- These features may reduce charging power or intentionally limit the charging process.
- If necessary, check the battery and charging settings on your smartphone.
If your smartphone continues to charge too slowly
If the charging performance remains significantly too low despite following these steps, please contact our Customer Support at [email protected].
Please provide the following information:
- Order number or proof of purchase
- Complete delivery address
- Smartphone model
- Whether the smartphone is being used with or without a phone case
- Details about the power supply, such as power adapter, output, connection method and cable used
- Please also let us know how much the battery level increases within a specific period of time, for example: "The smartphone charges by approximately 10% within 30 minutes."
Summary
Slower wireless charging is often caused by temperature, the power supply, smartphone positioning, an additional phone case, smartphone settings or high power consumption during use. Using a suitable power source, positioning the smartphone correctly and reducing power consumption can often improve charging performance. For the best possible wireless charging performance, we recommend using the smartphone without an additional phone case.
