Do I need an additional fuse when connecting the Cable 12V DC?Updated a month ago
An additional fuse is not strictly required. However, for the safest possible installation, we recommend connecting the SP Connect Cable 12V DC either via a 5 A fuse or to an ignition-switched power supply.
Why do we recommend an additional fuse?
An additional fuse protects the wiring in the unlikely event of a short circuit and provides an extra level of safety.
In practice, we receive very few reports of short circuits or similar issues. However, if you want to protect your setup in accordance with common vehicle electrical standards, we recommend using a 5 A fuse or connecting the cable to an ignition-switched power supply.
Our recommendation
- Connect via a 5 A fuse, or
- Connect to an ignition-switched power supply, so that the Cable 12V DC is only supplied with power when the ignition is switched on.
